Lessons from my QuietTime:
Understanding the Labo
“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shown toward His name, in that, ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
Hebrews 6:10
Labour for charity’s sake is a labour of love! It is a kind of labour you do without the motive of making profits. That is, profit is not your aim, goal or consideration for labouring. You are not labouring for what is in it for you. Rather, you are labouring because you enjoy doing it, for love’s sake, not for money’s sake. Ministry or charity work is not profit-oriented! But is it wrong to labour for Profit? No! Not at all! The Bible says in all labour there is profit. There is even an element of profit in the labour of love too. For instance, the joy or the sense of satisfaction and fulfilment you derive in serving people or doing something valuable could be termed a type of profit.
Let’s answer some questions:
1. What is Love?
Love is about giving your best to someone. It is an act of caring and giving to someone else. You can’t engage in the labour of love unless you have someone’s best interest and well-being as a priority in your life.
2. Why is a labour of love necessary in the body of Christ today?
It is necessary because love is the basis of our existence as Christians. We live and have our being in Christ. The Bible says, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being…” (Acts 17:28)
Christ is the epitome of love. And He also is Love personified. Labour of Love is needed to add value to the lives around us. Except God empowers us with His agape, unconditional love, we cannot engage in the labour of love.
3. What should be our motivation?
Love should be our major reason or motivation in our work, especially in the house of God. Also, God’s concrete promise not to forget our work and labour of love should serve as a motivation to love and serve His church. Whether you labour for charity or profit, satisfaction is key. Of what benefit is it to labour without satisfaction?
I decree and declare that you will find satisfaction or significance in your labour of love in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
