“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we are comforted of God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
God is still in the business of comforting His people that are in any distress or tribulation! He has never abandoned or left His people without comfort.
What is comfort?
Comfort is a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint. It is also about easing or alleviating a person’s feelings of distress, discomfort and disequilibrium. There is a purpose for being comforted by God. And the purpose is to comfort others. You’re being comforted so that you may use your experience to comfort others in your shoes. Have you suffered one form of affliction or another? Do you have a testimony of victory? The reason for your victory is to become a veritable extension of victory to others. Your story or testimony of how God delivered you should be able to relieve, lighten, lessen, or remove the pain in others
For instance, your God-ordained deliverance from discomfort or hardship will encourage others to believe in God for their own.
To comfort others we must:
- Become a Noah!
“And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.”
Genesis 5:29
Noah means comfort! You too can be a comfort to people around you!
As a Noah, you are designed and fabricated to give people comfort from the effect of curses or fruitless labour. Remember that before the emergence of Noah, people were working and toiling without results because the ground was under a curse! Do you know that many people are working and toiling today without tangible results? Such people need “Noahs” like you! - Be like Father Abraham!
“And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.”
Genesis 18:5
One way to comfort others these days is to share your material stuff, such as food with people who cannot afford to feed themselves. Father Abraham shared “a morsel of bread” with unknown visitors and that act brought him a cherished blessing, the blessing of Isaac! Try to be hospitable like Abraham! Go out of your way to bless others today! - Be like Barnabas!
“And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.”
Acts 4:36-37
To comfort others, you must be a sacrificial giver like Barnabas! Who is this guy? He is a member of the early church who earned his nickname or reputation for being a comforter or an encourager to the apostles. When the church needed money, he sold his land and brought the whole money to the apostles. Has God comforted you with wealth? You can use that wealth to comfort others. You can use your wealth to advance the kingdom of God on earth.
I pray that you may be comforted by God to comfort others in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
