“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13
What is friendship?
Friendship is a relationship of mutual interest, benefit or affection between two or more people. It is a stronger form of interpersonal relationship. Our Lord Jesus Christ validated the value of true friendship by offering to lay down His life for His friends. Do you have friends? Are you willing and prepared to go the long haul with them? The Bible says, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
True friendship is mutually beneficial! As both can support or be there for each other. It is wonderful to have friends, I mean true friends that you can share your life with. Dependable and faithful friends are scarce these days! It is not everyone who professes to be a friend that is a true friend. Some are fake and dubious. Judas Iscariot was not a true friend, as he became the guide to the captors of his Master, Jesus Christ.
A true friend will not seek harm or hurt his friend. May God bless you with true friends!
How to know a true friend:
- Sharing
True Friendship is about sharing!
Your true friend will ever be willing to share with you. David demonstrated this quality of true friendship, by sharing gifts with his friends when he came back from the war front. The Bible says, “And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD;”
1 Samuel 30:26 - Intimacy
True friendship is about intimacy!
Your true friend will be close to you!
Even if he or she is far away in a distant land. There is no barrier or distance to true friendship.
“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
Proverbs 18:24
How close or intimate are you with your friend? - Refreshments
Friendship is about refreshments!
Your true friend must be a source of fresh strength or energy. Do you feel
refreshed when you are in the company of your friend? Does he or she revitalize, strengthen, enliven or encourage you? Your rejuvenation is within the purview of your friends. Apostle Paul was given the liberty to visit his friends for refreshments. The Bible says, “And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.”
Acts 27:3
I decree and declare that you will enjoy the blessing and benefits of true friendship this year in Jesus’ mighty name!
Yours sincerely,
