“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”
Proverbs 4:13
Until we place value on instructions, we may not benefit from our instructors. Embracing and heeding instructions is the wisest thing to do.
What is an instruction?
Instruction, in our context, is about a command or order given by our superiors to us to do something.
Any time we are given directives or told to do something we are receiving instructions. Instruction is very vital to our existence, hence we are enjoined not to despise or refuse to take instructions. Wisdom is about embracing and obeying orders or instructions! The Bible says, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” Proverbs 9:9
On the other hand, it is foolishness to despise or jettison instructions! The Bible says, “… fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
If you want to make progress or gain speed in life you must be willing and prepared to submit yourself to instructors who know better than you. My father in the Lord, Bishop David Oyedepo once said, “Those who walk do so by common sense; those who run, run by principles; and those who fly, fly by instructions. That’s why at the Aviation school, you have instructors, not professors.”
Let’s consider 3 categories of instructors:
- Teachers
We are meant to obey the instructions of our teachers. Teachers in this context, are not just our classroom teachers, but our mentors, bosses or leaders who possess experience, superior knowledge and skills to impart to us. It is wise to obey the voice of your teachers or those that instruct you. “And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!” Proverbs 5:12-13 - Parents
Our parents, both biological and spiritual, are positioned by God to instruct us. It is the height of foolishness to despise or refuse instructions from your parents. The Bible says, “A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.” Proverbs 15:5
A wise son or daughter will always hear and obey their parents’ instructions!
The Bible says, “A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.” Proverbs 13:1
It is for your good to hear the instruction of your father and not to forsake the law of your mother. - God
Our grand Instructor is God Almighty! And He has promised to instruct, teach and guide us in the way we should go, not the way we want to go. God, our heavenly Father is better placed to show us the way, as He is very much in the know of all the details of our existence. The Bible says, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”
Psalms 32:8
The easiest way to lose out in life is to despise or reject divine instructions. How does God instruct us? He does instruct us by His Word. The Bible says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” 2 Timothy 3:16
I decree and declare that you will place value on instructions forthwith in Jesus’ mighty name.
Yours sincerely,
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe
